Get to Know Polybius

By Kim Gray

Eora/Sydney based indie-pop rock band, Polybius is comprised of Tamzin (vocalist), Simon (lead guitar), Will (bass) and Dono (drums).

Polybius’s musical influences are diverse ranging from theatre musicals, indie, rock, electro and heavy metal-but it is evident the pop genre is a favourite among the band! Their music is written around life’s funny moments, heartbreaking moments and everything in between.

Their newest release ‘Feel Your Love’ has made waves since its release, it is a groovy pop dance song, the lyrics are surrounding a breakup, yearning and reminiscing, although its descriptions sounds more on the sadder side, it certainly is not, this song will have you dancing in your living room, but that is the talent of Polybius’s using juxtaposition so rather than wallow in a possible sad situation, you have no choice but to shake and dance to it.

Although pop is at the forefront of Polybius, you must check out their EP ‘After Hours’:

‘Hideaway’ – leans into the indie rock pop genre, Tamzin’s vocals on the opening are operatic combined with a melodic guitar with groovy bass lines and a solid beat to accompany it, it is a song to experience for sure.

‘Get Even’ – THE rock song if you’re looking for something punchy, rebellious and triumphant, this is for you! The guitar takes centre stage, supported by a strong bass and even stronger drums! Tamzin’s vocals on this are transformative, gradually getting more menacing and intense!

‘Sun Song’ – Is literally your summers day in song form, think driving down the coast, sun blaring with wind flowing through your hair and you just don’t care. A bright and airy song meant to make you calm but still have a small boogey.

‘Escape’– A bright slow paced, chill indie (almost psychedelic) rock song, this song will have you bopping your head to the beat, the guitar has its own heartbeat in this song.

‘The Rain’– a calm opening disrupted by a strong rock shift, this song is transformative and keeps you on your toes!

‘Take Me Out’- an electro pop rock song fit for a car drive where the destination is unknown but liberating! It will have you singing along in no time.

An honourable mention, Polybius played a gig for ‘Step Out for Cancer’ on October 11th, proceeds go to cancer research, which is amazing! If you’d like to further support Polybius, you can vote for Polybius to play at Good Things, go to their Instagram @polybius_official.
