A Wild Experience – Oscar the Wild
By Kim Gray
Oscar the wild are a Kaurna/ Adelaide based band, comprised of Nicola Willsmore, Ruby Gazzola, Ariya Gabell and Lucinda Lake. Their music is best described as a blend of pop, indie, rock, and punk, but their fluid genre makes them unique, no song is the same, yet it is the signature sound of Oscar the Wild.
Oscar the Wild’s musical journey began from school music ensembles to taking the stage by storm at festivals like Harvest Rock, BIGSOUND, Mountain Goat Valley Crawl, and Vintage Vibes, supporting some of Australia’s most iconic bands such as AC/DC, Amyl and the Sniffers, Grinspoon and international artists, Bloc Party, The Beths, and Pale Waves.
They are absolutely killing it in the Australian music scene, winning 2 awards at the South Australian Music Awards in 2025, taking home 2 titles in the following category, ‘Best Group’ and ‘People’s Choice Rock’. They have also been nominated once again for ‘People’s Choice Rock’ award in 2026!
Oscar the Wild released ‘Ghost’ earlier this year. A slower paced track that brings the chill-out rock vibes, it has a nostalgic quality about it too! Compared to recently released single ‘Sunrise,’ which has more of a groove and upbeat tempo, that has you walking with style and throwing a concert in your living room! Their latest hit ‘Let it out’, was written for a friend of Ruby’s who was going through a tough time, more sombre side with a rock shoegaze approach.
If you didn’t know Oscar the Wild handmake their beaded keychains and are heavily involved in designing all merch! They support local businesses to produce their merch, I highly recommend if there is a design you like, you support them as well!
Supporting local Aussies businesses is not all Oscar the Wild do; they also have an upcoming Split Ep alongside a co-headline tour. The collaboration includes, Talk Heavy (Meanjin/Brisbane), Great Job (Eora/ Syndey) and Bukowski (Naarm/Melbourne), each band will headline their own hometown. The tour centres around uplifting and sharing the stage with fellow Aussie artists. They are also supporting The Buoys (Eora/Sydney) on their upcoming tour.
If you love band who is wholesome, has a sprinkle of creative chaos and knows how to bring an electric performance to the stage, you’ve found your new addition to you playlist!
