What Satellites Teach Us About Rain

Shankar Sharma, a PhD student from the University of NSW, is researching urbanisation’s effects on precipitation – or in layman’s terms, how cities shape rainfall.

A recent study has shown that it rains more frequently in cities when compared to surrounding areas, but Mr Sharma says that while this is likely, we have to be careful with how we interpret rainfall data from satellites.

We sat down with Mr Sharma to talk about his research, and about how using satellite data can help us better understand precipitation patterns.
