New Music Friday – 12 January 2024

It’s that time again – New Music Friday! Make sure you check out all the new music being added to TuneFM this week, featuring artists such as James Arthur, Spacy Jane, and Okay Dane.

Song: Bitter Sweet Love

Artist: James Arthur

James Arthur has unveiled his latest track ‘Bitter Sweet love’ after teasing it on social media throughout the last week. On Instagram he says this is his favourite song from his upcoming album of the same name, which will be dropping on the 26th of January.

The song delves into the desire for a more positive emotional connection with someone, expressing the need for “just a bit of sweet love…” While the upbeat melody is perfect for a love song, the lyrics focus more on the complexities of love and relationships.

To celebrate the release of his fifth studio album, James Arthur announced a world tour for 2024, starting with a show in Germany on the 26th of January. Tickets went on sale in early December of last year.

Song: One bad day (Explicit)

Artist: Spacy Jane

Spacy Jane have released a new single ‘One Bad Day,’ written shortly after the release of their second studio album. The song is an anthem for those trying to get through a bad breakup, going through the motions of regret, struggle, and eventually acceptance that time will pass.

The bands lead vocalist said they chose to release this song by itself because it does not fit the vibe of their upcoming third album.

“we really love the song, we want to see it out in the world… so [we] found it a place in between albums as a way to say thank you to fans and scratch an itch of our own before we start rolling out LP3.”

Song: Triumph

Artist: Bishop Briggs

English singer-songwriter Bishop Briggs has released her new song triumph, which was featured in Hondas latest add campaign ‘Chasing Greatness.’ This is her latest release since her EP ‘When Everything Went Dark,’ which was released in June.

The lyrics follow a journey of personal growth and resilience, highlighting how surviving hardship can make a person stronger. This song exudes confidence, serving as the perfect song for embracing your inner bad b*tch in 2024.

Song: Terrible News

Artist: Middle Kids

Middle kids have released a new song ‘Terrible News,’ as part of their upcoming third studio album Faith Crisis: Pt. 1, which will be released on February 16th. The song comes with a one-take music video, shot in Sydney’s inner west.

The song was written during the COVID lockdowns, with the band saying it was ‘cathartic to write.’ Middle Kids frontwoman Hannah Joy felt frustration around that time, saying “I eventually felt so overwhelmed by all the noise, I couldn’t take it anymore.”

You can catch middle kids preforming in Darwin later this year at the Bassinthegrass festival.

Song: Pink Skies

Artist: Giant Rooks

Giant Rooks have released ‘Pink Skies,’ the last song they will release before their new album ‘How Have You Been?’ which comes out on February 2nd. This new album also comes with a Europe and North American headline tour.

The European leg of the tour started on January 5th in Barcelona, with the band moving on to their American and Canadian shows on April 8th.

Song: Deep in Your Love

Artist: Alok, Bebe Rexha

Brazilian DJ Alok has collaborated with American singer songwriter Bebe Rexha in their new track ‘Deep in Your Love.’ The song was first played in early October of last year at the Tomorrowland Brazil festival.

This catchy love song follows a need for deep emotional bond and trying to escape from surface level interactions.

Song: Evolution

Artist: Sheryl Crow

Sheryl Crow released her new track ‘Evolution’ earlier today. The song was released as a surprise sneak peek into her upcoming album of the same name, which will come out on March 29th of this year.

The new album has come as a Surprise to many, especially as the artist has previously stated she had no plans for another album. The album was first announced on the 3rd of November last year, the same day Sheryl Crow was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Song: Interstellar Nihilist

Artist: Okay Dane

Melbourne Alt-rock trio Okay Dane released their new single today, titled ‘Interstellar Nihilist.’ The imaging of this song takes you to space, exploring themes of disconnection in a digital age, represented by an astronaut stranded in space.

“a metaphor to represent loneliness and existential dread in the digital age, where we are more accessible with our communication but far less connected in any in person sense” – Dane’s guitarist and vocalist Jake Kougioumtzis
