Home / Writing your profile page

It’s time to write yourself a bio page.

Yikes. Scary isn’t it.  Most people aren’t good at writing about themselves but it’s an important step in creating your own personal brand.

Here are the guidelines for your profile on TuneFM’s webpage.

Length: 2-3 paragraphs of 2-3 sentenances.

Person: 3rd person.  In your own personal social media or LinkedIn profile, first-person is the way to go but this is a third party website you are not personally in control of, so third-person is the way to go for this.

Note: If it was an interview blog with you being interviewed that would be different, you would respond in first-person.

Vibe: fun, energetic, passionate.  You’re not a stodgy professor who’s bored with the world of academia, you’re an early-career academic.  Show your personality and what you’re passionate about.

Photos: we need two photos.  You can take both on your phone (although it might be easier to have a friend help).

One portrait-oriented headshot.  Make sure your face is the focus and is well lit.  Try to be smiling and approachable.  As an added bonus, this photo could also be used for your LinkedIn profile.

One landscape-oriented “action” shot.  Be in the field, the library, at your desk researching or at a coffee shop with your laptop in front of you.  Pick something that shows your personality and shows you actively doing what you love.

Take some time to get it right.  Yes, we want to put something up soon (we’re kinda proud you’re with us), but this is your first step in really working on your personal brand and it’s worth taking time to get it right.

Put that all together and send it to Tania’s email.
