Dial Denial’s New Single House of Mirrors is a Hopeful Anthem for the Overwhelmed

By Kim Gray

Eora/Sydney based alternative rock band Dial Denial, consisting of Fergus Harley-Macdonald (vocals), Baily Pike (Bass), with brothers Justin Borg (drums) and Owen Borg (guitar) have released their latest single, House of Mirrors.

House of Mirrors opens with a bright, upbeat guitar which sets the tone before the bass, drums and vocals kick in. The powerful drum fills and sprinkled-in double kicks boost the bass’ presence and adds an extra layer of grit to House of Mirrors.

This is a song about feeling overwhelmed, overworked and over it to the point of self-blame, wanting to turn things around and contemplating the future, but it can be interpreted in different ways. House of Mirrors is relatable, especially in the climate we live in now, with the common struggles of life, chasing a dream in a world that seems to just throw challenge after challenge at us to point of exhaustion, feeling odd or left out, and now with lots of political unrest going on in the world. Despite these challenges, there is a sense of resilience within House of Mirrors.

In comparison to Cardinal that features LATE 90’s, which is slower paced and a feel-good song that leans more punk rock and surfer rock, House of Mirrors is more upbeat, energetic even rebellious, it just shows the growing versatility of Dial Denial’s sound.

If you are a new listener to Dial Denial, let House of Mirrors be your introduction to them and discover their other songs like Cardinal, Sedate Me, Frustrations and Killara Road! If you are familiar with Dial Denial already, add this to your rotation in your playlist. These legends have some big things cooking, can’t wait for what is next for Dial Denial!

House of Mirrors is streaming now on all platforms.
